Humayun’s tomb: It is the tomb of the second emperor of the Mughal dynasty, Humayun. Built in 1570, the tomb is the first grand dynastic garden mausoleum on the subcontinent and was an inspiration for the creation of the world-famous Taj Mahal. The tomb thus bears a resemblance to the Taj Mahal in Agra. It provides a panoramic view of the magnificent Char Bagh, a Persian-style garden with pools connected by crossing water channel pathways.
Qutub Minar: This 72-meter-tall structure consists of five storeys It is the tallest minaret in the country and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Qutub complex is also home to several other historical attractions, like the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, the tombs of Altamish, Alauddin Khalji, Imam Zamin, and the Alai Minar.
Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid, the biggest mosque in India, is yet another amazing gem of Old Delhi. Emperor Shah Jahan’s great architectural gift finished in 1658, the Jama Masjid, features three gateways, four-angle towers, and two minarets. An amazing twenty-five thousand devotees can fit in its courtyard. The construction of the mosque took about 13 years. One has to wear suitable attire and be barefoot to enter the mosque.
Jantar Mantar: This is one of the five astronomical observatories constructed in 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur. Jai Singh noticed that the previous astronomy instruments were too small to collect precise readings, so he created these larger and more accurate devices. This ancient observatory encloses some impressive instruments that you can marvel at, like the Samrat Yantra, an immense sundial, and the Jai Prakash Yantra.
